What is the Beckley Area Foundation? The Beckley Area Foundation is very different from other philanthropic and nonprofit institutions.
It is not a direct service provider, such as Hospice, the Youth Museum or Theatre West Virginia. It is not a federation made
up of member agencies like the United Way. It is not a private foundation dedicated to the specific interests of a family
or individual.

Rather, the Beckley Area Foundation is a charitable channel through which,
not to which, donors give. The community foundation concept is as ingenious as it is simple - it is a means by which a substantial
amount of money can be built over time from contributions both large and small, the income from which is used to meet the
community's charitable needs.
Your community foundation does this by providing grants each year in the fields
of education, human services, the arts, public recreation and beautification
For these purposes your community foundation accepts financial gifts which are deposited in perpetual trust
funds administered by Beckley Area Foundation's trustee banks. Only the income from these funds is spent; the principal
remains intact forever. Currently, the trust departments of JPMorgan-Chase, City National Bank, First Community Bank
and United Bank serve as investment managers for funds held by Beckley Area Foundation. When donors establish a fund
they may select a trustee bank. A Beckley Area Foundation Investment Committee meets with the managers from the trust
departments on a regular basis. Current bank and foundation administrative fees can be obtained by calling the Beckley
Area Foundation office at (304) 253-3806.
